Allie the Pig
When Jeff and Cadence begged me to let them adopt a pot bellied pig last spring I reluctantly said yes. "Make sure you check all the laws and ordinances," I said to Jeff. "Yes, dear," he said.

Unfortunately the checking was not done and Allie got out of the yard and was apprehended by the Salt Lake Animal Control. We finally found her there and I dutifully went and turned ourselves in and paid the fine. They informed us that under no circumstances were we allowed to have her in the city. I frantically contacted several rescue farms to see about getting her placed. They didn't have any places available but recommended that I get her spayed in order to help with her placement and referred me to the best vet in town.

So last Tuesday before we took Cadence to school we got up early, headed to the SLC Animal Control where we packed up Allie into the car and toted her to the vet where we dropped her off. Then after we were done with Cadence's orientation we went back to the vet, picked her up, and took her back to the Animal Control. The surgery went well.

And I am happy to report that Allie was adopted the very next Saturday. She is living on a little farm now and the man who owns the farm has invited us out to visit whenever we like.

All's well that ends well. The moral of this story? When your family asks you if they can get a pet JUST SAY NO!!!! You will be the one to do the damage control.
